folks don't mistake estrogen panic (aka - belly fat) for pregnancy so they don't embarrass you by asking "when is the little one due"...

As the great greek gynecologist...
Dr. Hopontopoffus once said (thanks Woody) all's well that ends good.  I have a similar friend approaching "the change" and I just hope the mood swings don't become permanent.  Clever writing as always, keep up the good work.  And look out for hot flashes!

Menopause Advice: HRT or Not?
Kate takes nothing and manages very well, except for an occasional "hot" flash. She does not trust hormones and such.   joab

Re: HOLY GRAIL, BATMAN!
Hey, someday your faucet is going to stop dripping and you're going to have to decide whether to hope it takes care of itself or ingest some Liquid Plumber.

Thanks for stopping by Holy One but, sheesh, you're no help.  ;-)

Re:
LovelyLady, you're as sweet as ever.  Thanks for your input.  Incidentally, don't you think “Loose Bowels” would be a great name for an aging rock group?  Or maybe “The Kidney Stones.” :-)

Take care LLM

Re: CunningL........
Soul_Builder101, I like your name too.  And thank you for the information.  Nothing prolapsed here presently, and we are hoping to keep all organs in their upright positions.  It was very kind of you to share your knowledge.  Thanks for dropping in.

Re: Cunning and Melody!!
Krisles, it's great to hear from you again.  I probably wouldn't have written if not for your request, and also the need for information on this subject for whatsherface.

I appreciate your candor.  I really did want to get advice and didn't know whether anyone would take me seriously -- I seem to have a problem with that for some reason.  ;-)

To me, the hormone replacement therapy seems to have more downsides, especially for someone who has heart and/or liver issues.  In any case, thanks again.  And I'll try to get creative juices flowing around here again.  (No pun intended.)

I'm sorry, who are you again?

Melody,

First off, I wanted to thank you for the kind comment you left me.  I will be back as soon as I can.  I'll miss you, too!  Actually, I owe you a huge apology...I haven't been by to read you in ages, and for this I now humbly apologise.

Now, about your friend...My advice is get to the doctor ASAP!  If she's having severe pain and loose bowels, it could be something more serious than menopause.  My roommate's sister has IBD, and it may be that your friend is showing the same symptoms.

Frankly, I'm no doctor, and therefore I'm not trying to make any kind of diagnosis here...I don't believe that people should go about trying to diagnose themselves or anyone else for that matter.  It's just too damn dangerous.  All I want to suggest is that she get a thorough exam to rule out any other possibilities.

IBD is Inflamatory Bowel Disease, by the way...Wasn't sure if you'd know what it stands for.

BTW...Feel free to email me anytime if you like!

Now in regards to Peachy...No worries, I'll still drop by to look after him when I can.  In the meantime, just please make sure you look after him for me whilst I'm away, okay?  And yes, you may tell him I said so!...

Take care, sweet Melody.

CunningL........
Your name resembles cunninglingus.... hence my fear of trying to relate! Prolapsed organs are nothing new.Usually it is the womb or other body part. This is to be fixed by an expert at rubbing and massage. I know one person in Trinidad who does it, because it is a generational transference thing! Listerine because it is made with bay leaves, deals with prolapses of the epiglottis. There are several kinds of prolapses and herniated conditions that occur to soft tissue. The west is unfortunately un-informed. There are cures for everything that irks us! Unfortunately, many are wedded to the popular notions, without a hope of reprieve!

Cunning and Melody!!

I'll confess to being post.....if it means getting to connect with you two again!!!  Seriously, I've been through it and survived to tell the tale.  I didn't notice any sexual side-effects, putting first things first....but, I went through it at a relatively early age and had been active, anyway....I think that, besides there sometimes being genuinely physical causes for the decreased libido, for many women it's a matter of a lot of factors converging at "that" time.  I had hot flashes...but, more distinctly, I just was HOT aaaaaaalllllll the time....for years!  I would go stand on the patio in my nightgown and socked feet, with snow falling.....I had to resist the urge to pick up a chair and hurl it through the window at work on many days....seriously......it seemed to be as much a matter of needing to feel air....

It was discovered I was actually entering menopause when I had my heart attack at 44...and I was put on hormones as soon as I was out of the hospital....since I hadn't known I was in menopause, and the doctors had assumed I was too young (pretty stupid about such things, along with women's hearts, then), I had thought I was just having irregular periods and actually been put on birth control pills right before my attack.  Anyway, my point is, they stopped my periods completely, with meds, at the same time they put me on hormones....so, I don't really know how to compare how it would have been with or without because I wasn't experiencing any real symptoms when I went on them.

I went off hormones when they had the study about women with heart problems being better off w/o them.....and really couldn't tell any difference....although, the HOTNESS did seem to get better around that time....whether it was connected or not, I don't know....they never could decide if my "vascular instability" was connected to menopause or a side effect from having been under a general anesthetic for several hours....I came too feeling on fire, and that happens sometimes with long surgeries....so I was told.

In summary....some definite flashes that I'm sure were menopausal.....lots of all the time horrible HOTNESS, that I don't know the cause of....no known effect on libido....bone density stayed excellent....all organs still in place and holding UP......hmmm, what else did you ask?  Oh, I never had those horrid night sweats, but I know several who have....yuk!

Ok....does that make up for all the comments you haven't had?
