You raise so many good questions in your posts, and offer many avenues of thought in the arena of faith and spirituality.

Those believers that you've described base their faith on the basic principle of fear, and in their misplaced zeal, stop growing in faith beyond this principle and start spouting off what really only applies to themselves.  As a result, they piss people off rather than attract people to the messages of the Gospels.

Ignorance is a self-inflicted, fatal flaw.
