Re: Azur Krisles, you raise an interesting point
I think that celebrity and art are not necessarily the same thing. A good artist attracts attention to what they say and the way they say it and so people deem them worth listening to or reading or viewing. A celebrity may or not be an artist. Yes the audience may be infuenced by the celebrity, and some of these celebrities may have ill-informed and even dangerous views but who is it that put these celebrities on a pedestal? I think we get artists and the celebrities we deserve.

Azur, brilliant post! If everyone keeps their opinion to themselves,
how will I learn?  Life would be a dull, small town with no bright lights or shadows, no differences, no challenges. It would be unnatural.

Azur
I am somewhat confused in my feelings about this issue.  I completely agree with everything you say.....EXCEPT, I feel celebrity gives a person an unearned validity to anything they may say, in the still forming minds of the young, and the uninformed minds of those who are too lazy to think for themselves....it seems to me that celebrity, which is the mantle many artists wear, is too often taken as "knowledgable"...and that may not be the case.  I don't mean to cut anyone off....but I just don't like seeing more weight being given to whatever opinion someone wants to express, because they have celebrity - when celebrity is not necessarily a function of talent and art (or heart), but is often a result of timing and exposure....and whether earned or not.
