I've copied the relevant, actionable suggestions from my blog to this comments area.
Suggestion 1: A larger prize. A $500 or $1000 prize will generate more effort. As the $100 is not tax-free, after Uncle Sam takes his cut, I'd only have about $65.
Suggestion 2: Toss in a free year's membership with the cash prize.
Suggestion 3: Have a list somewhere of all BN Staff and their blogs so we can tell who is and who is not a contender.
Suggestion 4: Create a Contest Tracker to show where bloggers stand in the ranks of the contenders. Maybe a graph of where blogs stand, or a list of the front runners.
Suggestion 5: Provide a place where we can see how many unique clickers hit the site in a given day, so we can determine whether we're getting anything close to a majority of those clicks. This would be useful regardless of there being a contest. I'd like to know if 10,000 different people hit the site but only 10 click on my blog.
Suggestion 6: Create categories of prizes (then a smaller prize would be acceptable, if there were, say, five $100 prizes), or at least don't include blogs about blogging, the BN, and that sort of thing in the contest. Target those blogs that seek to be creative, interesting, or compelling, rather than those that pander to gossip about other BN-ers or the self-serving desire to see one's name in lights.
