We face this daily as well. Trying to arrange transport last minute-- sometimes we do not make it. I stay awake nights trying to figure out ways to do more-- but all we can do is all we can do.

you're very right abour researching shelters-- we do.

But remember as much as we love animals-- in order to help the most-- rescues must rescue smart.

I will pray for your babies. We have trouble with transport across state lines if they are unaltered, even if they are coming here to us to be altered within days of intake.

I have been reading your posts about animal cruelty.  I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face.  I am part of a Border Collie Rescue Group and the horrors being committed out there are terrible but some of the so-called shelters are worse.  I urge anyone who is relinquishing a pet to check very carefully who is getting it.  Including the shelters.  Did you know that owner relinquishes die first?  Usually within 72 hours.

We are currently working on freeing a border collie bitch from a kill shelter.  She is pregnant.  We are trying to transport her from the US to Canada where our rescue is located.  This means that the district that the shelter is in will never have future responsibility for any of the animals.  The transport leaves tomorrow but they will not release Daisy until Monday (which, of course, we can't cover) because they plan to spey her first.  Killing the unborn babies, of course.  If we can't pick her up on Monday, she dies.  Unless one of the other rescues can get her out.  It does not matter to them that we have foster care waiting for all of them, they will all be speyed or neutered and every single one will be placed in an approved home that has been rigorously checked.  Rules are rules.  It is a sad situation when "rules" cost lives, canine or otherwise.

I have said many times that I would be ashamed to call myself human if I had to stand in front of an inter-stellar tribunal.  Although there are many wonderful people out there, I don't know anymore if there is a balance.  Why, as a society, do we allow this?  Why are the penalties not more severe?  Why is society so apathetic?  Why do we not do something about this?  It's just an animal!  So much for an enlightened society!

Okay, my rant is done.  I appollogize for the spillage of emotion but, please, if you are reading this, would you say a prayer for Daisy and her babies?  Some love sent her way would be wonderful, too!  One way or another.  AmMused

You save lives! You're great. Every single cat that you help will return good karma to you.
