Re: GEPRUITT - to clarify my position on the occurance of homosexuality

Gomedome,

Perhaps, my own clarification on a point or two is also in order!

First of all, I am not an insensitive person. In fact, I am, I think, pardon the appropriate pun, "abnormally" sensitive toward others. Although I have a bias or two myself, I do strive always to be fair and understanding to all segments of society, including the Gay Community.

Apart from your subtle suggestion that I may be guilty of discrimination toward Gays or think of them as "sinners," for which, if you have followed my writings in any significant depth at all, you will find no basis at all ... apart from that, I can say that I agree with your commentary. The subject of Religion or religious beliefs, sins and sinners, have been consciously and deliberately totally avoided in my discussions, except to clearly say I DO NOT view homosexuality as a moral issue.

At the same time, the words "Abnormal, " and "Abnormality" are perfectly legitimate words and have their place. To deny this accomplishes little at all worthwhile. In the medical world, no one would accuse the doctor of "insensitivity" if he were tell you after your physical examination that you have an "abnormally" developed heart. The question then would be a matter of your own reaction: Should you then expend your efforts in accepting and encouraging the social acceptance of this abnormalcy, or do you exert your efforts toward preventing your children from acquiring the same abnormality?

I do have feelings for the Gay Community.  Living in a world of "straights" must be very  difficult for them.  I simply feel that we should spend more effort in finding the causes for this "Gayness" than in accepting it as normal.  If I had my "druthers," I would much rather my own children grew up to be "straight," which they all did, than to wish them the life of a gay, wouldn't you?

I could go on much longer, but could also outwear my welcome.

Let me leave it this way: We should all be more understanding of one another, even of those often-maligned Christians who may be more "tolerantly" disadvantaged than ourselves!

Thanks for comments, Gome, always!

GEPRUITT - to clarify my position on the occurance of homosexuality
I hold the position that it is a naturally occuring anomoly with the caveat that there is not a negative connotation in my use of the word "anomaly". A small percentage of all species on this planet have same sex preferences and all indications strongly suggest that this naturally occurring anomaly has been constant throughout history amongst humans. The use of the word "abnormal" though not entirely inaccurate when referenced against the majority sexual preferences of all species, does have a negative connotation. Are you incapable of softening your language in consideration of other human beings or are you one of these people that is insistent that sexual preference is a choice made by sinners? In any event, the use of the word "abnormal" without caveat and with its implied negative connotations, is a subtle means of promoting discrimination. If I were describing an albino as an example, another naturally occuring anomoly amongst all species, I wouldn't use the word "abnormal" . . . . would you?
