Talion - I agree completely
Even to work within the confines of the preconceived beliefs being utilized to come to the conclusion of whom the designer may be, there is at least one concession that must be made. There are countless versions of this designer with some beliefs suggesting multiple designers. If the ID proponent is a Christian; 2/3rds of the world disagrees with the definition of their designer, the numbers pertaining to consensus decline dramatically outside of Christianity. If an individual is insistent upon the definition of the designer, a conclusion that cannot be drawn from observation, this renders ID nothing more than a religious belief.

The intellegent design theories have merit, but quickly break down once we move to the next logical question: designed by whom? Those who already have a concrete concept of God will always choose it as the grand designer and never entertain the possibility of something else. That's the core of the intellectual dishonesty you mention.

I've said it many times, but I can't help repeating it. At this point in human development, we simply can't prove or disprove the existence of a higher power. Any words claiming to do so, in either case, are simply the inane ramblings of a jackleg philosopher.

A-and-B - there truly is a difference between the non animate world and

nature.

That is also a problem with the type of analogy that I am refuting. It attempts to utilize things we do not know for certain in a confusing mix with things we do know to be true. I would call it "bar stool philosophy" but that may be too kind.

chitravathi_moon - good point, there are many things "designed" that don't

quite work.

. . . . and many things from the giraffe and to the Edsel look as if they were designed by a committee.

There are man-made things and non-manufactured things. :)

Hi Gomedome! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Actually, I tried to get MoonSpirit back as a name but, Blogit wouldn't let me have it. Go figure. Regarding design, intelligent or otherwise, it seems to me that many of the things in existence - both those designed by humans and those "designed" by Nature aren't really so "intelligent". Too often things don't function well at all and I have to ask, "Now what exactly was he/she thinking?" Moon
