When I was young our family took a trip into the Black Hills of South
Dakota...I recall the turtles suddenly appearing in front of us on the highway and my father swerving to avoid running over them...I kept a painted turtle that I found in the Black Hills (Mom tried to tell me to leave the turtle behind because it was government property or something but Dad handed me a pan which Mom had brought on the trip for cooking and I kept the animal there until  we got home)...there was a tractor tire in the back yard and I put the turtle there, eventually setting it free in the garden at the corner of our hill...
Great post!

Um, that should say "I'm actually..."

Jeez, this is like the "typo" comments section all of a sudden.

Sorry.

That's certainly quite a "mental visual".

I actually routinely stopping to kneel down and save earthworms from baking on the sidewalk. Needless to say, most people I'm with find that a tad peculiar.

Btw, was there supposed to be a photo in this post? Because, if so, it doesn't seem to be showing up for me.

Today, I accidentally stepped on a snail
on the sidewalk in front of our house.
And I thought, I too am like that snail.
I build a defensive wall around myself, a 'shell' if you will.
But my shell isn't made out of a hard, protective substance.
Mine is made out of tin foil and paper bags.
