Re: Justi
yeah, I understand what you're saying... I don't usually like to comment on those topics, as most of the posts are about personal views of the blogger...but this has happened to me also (in those categories) while responding to posts that seemed to be "open for discussion".

It is more than that. You read a blog in politics or religion and it is written to get feedback or something and you respond and they say thanks or leave you a

after you have commented on what they had made heavy in the first place. I agree with you. There are some categories that may not always require a comment. Some categories do require one.

Well, I thought I was the only one on blogit who went to see what
the author responded to my comment
. Yes, it can be quite frustrating when we leave a comment we believe is somewhat an "interesting" thought that could be debated and we are answered with an icon
. Well, I know some bloggers (me included) don't have time for writing, reading, commenting, let alone time for chit-chat but I honestly like "chit chatting" or debating or whatever, (although I usually don't have the time). But sometimes I just feels like they're saying...shut up-go home-I don't want to talk about this... so I go because I don't like intruding. LOL

This is such an excellent comment. Yes I agree. Maybe many have said the same but not in the same way. This is so to the point. Some are not wanting only to offend but are themselves confused and want a strong point returned. There are categories that beg to have debate and others that do not. Thank you.

Hi justi
I think that courtesy requires an answer to any comment, i love to do so but i have found myself unable to balance the writing/reading/commenting/replying act that blogging demands .In Blogit there is a fantastic oppurtunity to find out what people think and to put our point of view across and yet valid discussion oppurtunities are lost trying to make blogging ends meet while those with the deliberate intention of offending or at least stirring contreversy may fan the fire in the short term but they add nothing to the quality of the debate.

That is what I am talking about. They read ten trillion posts and comment with the same to all or most all of them. They post frequently and respond to comments the same over and over. Thanks lady for the visis and the comment.

I feel I must respon to all comments and sometimes Im disappointed when Ive
left a comment that the writer does not respond to. I do understand that time sometimes mean its hard to write a post, comment and read others and answer all comments. I havnt found a happy medium without spending hours here everyday, time which I dont have. I marvel at people who have multiposts and still appear to read many people. But I do get abit annoyed when some people churn out the same answer to completely different posts.

Are you talking of writers who are, shall we say, deliberately offensive? I haven't found many, and the few I know I simply ignore...

Yes I do understand perfectly. However, I run into posts that are written to garner rebuttal and all the comments are met with exactly the same word. I am at a loss for getting my point across so that would say it is the fault of my writing not the reader. My only concern was this: Writers who writer not for exposing their point as much as pushing for the readers response. The reader complies with comments to which the initial writer never recognizes. Is that mud clear. You do have a way of splashing the muck out of my words. Thanks.

When I joined Blogit, I did so with too purposes: first, to force myself to write more, as a kind of prod; second, to engage in debate, that is to say, dispassionate, reasoned, informed debate. Well, I found my prod, but I haven't found much debate. I must be fair, I found some, but not as much as I had hoped. And of that, some wasn't exactly what I had in mind. And I have come to the conclusion that Blogit really isn't the kind of place for debates.
I did find other things - among them people I think are interesting and that I really like. I found some amazingly creative writers. And I found people I regard as friends, though we may never actually meet. I had not expected any of that when I joined Blogit, but I enjoy that and it makes up for the lack of debate.
When I visit blogs, I like to leave a comment, but I don't always. Sometimes because I just don't know what to say, and sometimes because it is too difficult. Sometimes I find myself in the position of wanting to write a lengthy response, but lack of time prevents me. So I say nothing. But I agree with TAPS, I should probably leave at least an icon.
One thing I do religiously, if I may use that word, LOL, I do respond to everyone commenting on my posts...
Of course, sometimes there are no comments, as is the case at the moment with my last post in 'Views'...

I have a little trouble that direction too. I really appreciate any and all who read my posts and make comments, but I have found that the more comments one gets, the harder it is to find time to respond to them all. I have actually gotten emails before from bloggers who said something like, "you didn't respond to my comment" when the comment didn't even seem to need another comment back again. Sometimes, because of a lack of time, I have to choose whether to respond to all who commented on my posts or to read their posts and comment to them. I don't mean to neglect anyone.

Again let me say I am talking about the writer not the reader responding to the comments.
If the reader responds with a comment relative to the post that is asking and the writer of the post does not respond it appears akward to me.

I was talking about the post
writer and not the reader. I am bad about not being really clear. But I had a few posts in mind. They are controversial and when the reader carefully and nicely and these represent several readers I have seen leave some discussion the writer just says the very same word to every body. You do not do that on your posts. I love your posts and comments both ways. I am not talking about the reader leaving anything more than an icon or a word, if you do I should respond if I pulled in the comment through the post.

to let you know I was there, and move on.

I appreciate responses, but I do not feel badly if someone passes me by. There are so many writers here that it is impossible to respond to everyone. I feel badly because right at this moment I have a list of more than twenty bloggers that I want to read and perhaps comment but have not made it in so long they probably think I have deserted them for some horrible reason. Maybe I'm just slower than everyone else.

You make me feel validated here as well. You have responded to what I asked. If you had left only an icon you would have validated me too. My question is: If you leave such a clear and valid comment to this questioning post as you have, don't you feel I should respond with at least the knowledge that I know what you are saying and concur with your right and personal choice whether that is how I would choose to do or not?

Everyone who joins Blogit does not do it to debate. Some like reading what other people have to say but are not interested in rebutting. I am quite often one of those. There is nothing in my Blogit policy that says that I must comment, but I do like to let someone know that I read him/her. If pushed that direction too often, I will just stop reading that blogger rather than have to deal with it. Personally, I am thrilled to have a reader even if that reader only leaves me an icon. At least I know that I was read. If they keep coming back and keep leaving only an icon I figure they must like to read what I write and I do not feel that it is important for my opinions to be validated by long rebuttals.

This is an awesome comment. This is what I am talking about you gave your opinion. There are some post that are posted to get attack and there are others posted to get information from others as is this post. I believe you may post as much as you choose to be informative on this. Thank you for your answers.

I think no matter what the subject of a blog the comments should refrain from discourse as much as possible. If someone disagrees with an opinion they should be able to state so without attacking the writer or the subject matter...
