FineYoungSinger - to a great extent it is the problem of each individual
Public forums are what they are, we will all run into opinions we do not like but if a person cannot handle this they should examine why they are here.

Gome, "pro-active" blocking? Well that's childish. If you're going to go slopping your opinion around on Religious and Political blogs, you should expect opposition. Unless, of course, you're closed-minded.
You know, I have my beliefs, and my opinions, and will freely express them as everyone will be seeing, and I'm sure as many have already seen in this forum. I won't always agree with you, or with any other blogger. I certainly hope all bloggers don't agree with me, either.
It's through discussion of the harder issues, such as those found in Religious and Political posts, that we all grow and learn. It's terrible that people would prevent this sort of discourse through the rudeness of blocking.
(yes, I can get long-winded at times. forgive my prattling.)

Le_divorce - first off - a belated welcome to Blogit
It does say a lot about me . . . I'm a sucker for punishment ha ha.
The reality of writing a blog that is for the most part depicting the excesses of the believing majority, encompasses a few givens. Some people will react emotionally and say things that are rude or insulting, if I were to block them all I would soon find myself with no readers. So I tend to give them just a bit more rope for this particular blog, some hang themselves with it, others calm down in time.

Well, somone who is not willing to be civil and who keeps crossing the line
you have been very generous with your second chances... that says a lot about you. Many don't do that.

A-and-B - I get a lot of that, fill in the blanks character assessments
Most times done by those who believe every bit of religious propaganda that they have ever heard.

There are bloggers who insist on maintaining their stands about another blogger who they don't really know about. Like saying they know I am pink and insist on calling me pink. So I use the block.

Sunnybeach7 - I can relate to that - I've had much the same thing happen a
few times.
It's rather amazing how those types of people all seem to develop amnesia when it comes to relating both sides of the initial conflict.

Offy - yeah, no kidding -- I've even used that exact sentiment, in
suggesting that this forum is a big place, as advice for newbies.
Some take the advice, move on and find a group they feel comfortable with, others don't quite grasp that stopping into a blog they hate the contents of on a regular basis, has an element of self abuse to it.

Gome
It takes something really derogatory for me to block someone. I have also given second chances.
To date, I only have one person that will remain blocked permanently.
What I really hate is how they go to other people's posts, and talk about you, but then when you say something
you are out of line, and/or they weren't talking to
you. And then they cry victim...that you have attacked
them.

Mademoiselle - those sound like famous last words to me
I commend anyone who exhibits a bit of tolerance and respects the rights of others to express their opinions freely but with those rights comes a bit of responsibility. Anyone who is simply dumping on another person deserves to be blocked.

I have blocked a couple of people who did nothing but leave comments that were actually personal attacks. I find life easier with the block button option. I can totally relate to your experience with one blogger whose only desire in Blogitville was to make you miserable. I know one of those myself...
The good news is the forum is large enough to accommodate all opinions on everything. The bad news is some believe only their opinions count.. Interesting place this Blogit...

FineYoungSinger - there is a big difference between how people behave in
respect to the "Poetry" and "Religion and Spirituality" categories.
Religious opinions are enough sometimes to have people become "pro-active" blockers, that is blocking blog authors in this category before they ever leave a comment on one of their blogs. Something that I have had happen a few times. One can only hope that while anyone is on Blogit that they will never have to use the blocking utility but if they wander into the two categories that inflame people's emotions in this one and "Politics" . . . the chances of needing to are exponentially increased.

I would never block anyone, actually, for any reason.
Such do I believe in the freedom of speech.
However, I, personally, have been blocked by at least 9 people ... although I'm only aware of the reasons for 4 of those.
My mother got offended that I used the word "puke",
but to me, that's what her dinner tasted like.
