"you are responsible for your actions"
"The devil made me do it" is a crock. We have free will. What we do, how we behave, the choices we make, are all ours to make. I do happen to believe that there is a negative force existing in our universe, but that's not the point.
Whether you believe that a negative force exists in the universe or not, that's I guess your business. Among those that do, however, some make the mistake of holding this force responsible--blaming something external rather than holding themselves accountable for their own missteps--because it's far too difficult to examine themselves. Which totally baffles me, because you'd think that a person believing in an all-powerful, omnicient God that created him/her with a free will would realize that this God will not buy into "the devil made me do it" on his/her judgment day.
So my two cents is if you believe that you are being swayed by a negative force, then you are not living authentically.
Good post, Kooka. Very thought provoking.
