I've been blessed
I've also been diagnosed with depression, but I've only had one hospitalization (one week) and no suicide attempts. I think writing will help you it has helped me.

opheliablue, it seems that the importance does lie in your ability to say whatever you feel you must and express it whenever, however you can. The power lies in your willingness and ability to do so and the catharsis of the actualization. And you are that power... Believe in yourself...
