It's so easy to slip into that "daily" state, isn't it.  Like you, all it takes is a couple of deep breaths and a stillness for me to return to a more spiritually charged frame of mind.  I like myself much better when I'm interacting with the world and dealing with the daily stuff when I feel the warmth of my spirituality influencing each movement, word, or deed.

The Hindus have conceived of three states, and the fourth, Turiya, is the one where one is, in reality established, called just the fourth. The three states are like stations where one is for a while and moves on because it is not his home. The three states are: Awake; Dream; and Dreamless Sleep. A good thoughtful write.

I can only answer from my experience. I think it is the same you in both situations. In the outer life you focus your awareness outwards dealing with the world according to your duties, your values and morals...... just to keep the 'doing' righteous. If you don't keep it righteous you will be 'tied' externally, making it difficult for you to retract your awareness in order to focus within, as in writing. That big glue-trap out there has to be embraced but dismissed just prior to the 'kissing'! Nice topic!

Very interesting question..
I wonder if you are always your true self in both "states". I picture the self not as a smooth round stone, but as the earth is round from a distance. Up close there are many levels of self, just as there are many levels of altitude. The conscious self, the subconcious self and all the levels inbetween above and below those two levels. ~Peace, OTA
