You are so correct. Yet this lady may have needed it more. Thanks.

great post!
you probably would have forked over the change if she had "appeared" to need it, i.e., was dressed shabbily with unkept hair and a look that says "I am destitute." We do unfortunately judge by appearances, it's human nature. But that you have since thought about it, shows you to be a good person at heart.

You are right, EX TURPI. Not to add to your guilt, but it probably would
not have altered the course of human events dramatically by giving her a couple quarters for coffee. But you never know... Perhaps your not giving her the money stopped the finalization of a foreclosure on a building where a nonprofit organization in financial arrears provided charitable food and clothing for thousands of indigent people, therefore giving them a small reprieve. In one, she goes without coffee and a shopkeeper loses out on a two-dollar sale. In the other, thousands of people benefit. Such is life and its details, butterfly effects and all. Ease your mind and heart, my friend. Make a donation to a charitable organization. Buy a stranger a cup of coffee. But do not let it overly worry you. You're just a person of conscience -- and human...
