Sunny,

Interesting thoughts here. Perhaps your thoughts on respect are true for both sexes?

Respect means different things to different people I think, but as you point out we all want respect. The trick is in figuring out what that means individually. Some people want respect for their accomplishments, others want respect just for being a human being, and yet others have no real defined concept of respect. The last group are the hardest ones to relate to IMHO.

I look forward to reading more from you on this subject . ~Peace, OTA

Thanks so much for your comments.  I also agree that children should be respected.
I was never given much respect as a child, and I grew up with serious self esteem issues, and kinda feeling like what I want and think isn't important.

sorry for such a long comment, but a very important subject, would love to
read your book on the subject, and i did want to add respect should be extended to strangers, and everyone we come in contact with,  writing a book will be a great undertaking, good luck , will look forward to reading more.

i think for both sexes respect is earned. and 1 way to earn respect is to
know what it is and to give it. one way we taught our children about respect was to never allow them to talk back to us.  there are a million ways to respect a partner and just as many to respect your parents, friends, your children , etc.  i think i do a pretty good job at times respecting my husband, but as a human i fall down alot to. people sometimes do not think they have to respect children, but to teach a child it is very important.  so it makes me think respect can become a habit.

Haha, I mean they are ALL insincere about it, but I mean that some do it to try to keep the peace, and some do it just because they're idiots.

Yes, some men do that. And sometimes it's quite obvious that some of them are unsincere about it.

Respect is very important, given and recieved.
It works both ways or not at all. One can't constantly be the giver with the other always taking....sooner or later the giver will stop. Then what? Great thoughts good post.

well, I read fast.. but I think that men feel like giving respect is equal
to nodding and saying yes to anything a woman may want.  It's not really their fault but they tend to go overboard and I find that to be very condescending.

I was trying to make that point.  Did it come across or no?

You've also added some thought to something I missed, thanks.

the key is to give respect without being patronizing. Some women might
not mind being put on a shelf, but I personally can't stand it.  LOL
