angel_of_the_night - First off, a belated: Welcome to Blogit
The thing about the catholic church is that it has many different levels of backwardness. It is difficult to refer to anything within an institution that is entirely backwards as different levels of "progress" so we are forced to use the term "levels of backwardness". It all depends where you live on this planet as to what level of backwardness you will be exposed to. Many of the North American diocese' are moderate in their thinking, in other parts of the world; each and every diocese is an insane asylum of medieval or primitive thought.

Bhaskar.ing - I was a little concerned about leaving so many comments on

your blog but figured you wouldn't mind the resultant clicks.

I always get a kick out of those who assume that they have a right to elevate their delusional religious ramblings above all others and regardless of who's company they are in. It has been my experience that when they are so obtuse as to think that they have some special or unique spiritual insight that has escaped the rest of us, they usually have nothing. Nothing but a conviction that they are right and subsequently blinding them to all reason, while impeding the path to their own personal growth.

Great post...
Even though I'm not a practising catholic now, Iwas raised as one. But thank god my parents weren't that gunh ho on it all, because that sounds full on and scary!

Hi gomedome, I remember sister Neverhadaman was your teacher,
if my memory serves me right. Your writes and the questions you pose are, to me, very intelligent and enjoyable. We are fortunate to have your blog, though for many with questionless beliefs, you and the likes of me are an evil. I am referring to Soul_Builder whom you left battered, bruised and bleeding. But he asked for it, though.

Sunnybeach7 - no hell risked for that one as it was just a little fib
But Sister Neverhadaman was sure to rack up a few billion more years in purgatory, which is heaven's waiting room according to what she believed. I really feel that her fantasy world of make believe was so powerful to her and that she was so detached from the real world that she could have even believed all of the things she said. That's what made her so scary, Satan was really lurking behind every tree in the dark forest in her mind and she felt she had better warn the kids. Crazy folk shouldn't be left alone with impressionable minds.

Gome
That's scary.  We were not Catholic, so I at least got to chose my "own" imaginary friends.

LOL...you KNOW that they don't turn their heads. Can't believe she'd risk hell for that lie.

What about all of our invisible friends on the blogs ... You know, they didn't use to be able to do this.
