I think I understand this very well, as I never worried about trying to belong and didn't rush to catch up with the crowd either. I simply lived my life my way. In fact, "Living my life my way" is one of my favorite quotes by me.

There's an old poem that answers some of your questions.
it is called "Desiderata" and according to legend, was found tacked to the door of a church a hundred or two hundred years ago. Nobody ever found out who wrote it. One line from the poem concerns belonging... to paraphrase - you are a part of the universe, even as the stars, and you have every right to be here... There's something about patience, too. Keep writing!
