Yes, time for them to stand, or fall, on their own

They are also a used to authoritarianism and religious rule. Democracy
might be an ideal for them but a artificially created federal or representative system may not be structurally sound or viable for the Iraqis.  They will have to make that determination.  Our time and money is best spent elsewhwere.  This b.s. we keep hearing about, "well, we gotta do something, since we're there and done took away their old government and army.  We can't just leave them to fend for themselves."  Four and a half years after invasion and occupation, over two years with an elected government and these guys can't act independently?  Ridiculous.  Dubya and the Dimwits (and all their corporate cronies) don't want to leave because they're making a killing (literally and financially) off the companies that are profiting from this war...

Exactly...
And what is the point anyways in spending that ginormous amount of money in a country that really doesn't know or want democracy? They were accustomed to their tribal system and Hussein's rule.

Exactly, Antonionioni. Check out my comment to Troosha below...

We already know that millions have been siphoned away in corruption,
Troosha.  Many of the handpicked ideological stooges of the Republican party (the fiasco that was the CPA) and Haliburton had hands in the till.  Simply ludicrous and shameful.  Everybody associated with Bush and his cronies are making millions while our military personnel, believing they're there on a nobler mission, are dying for it.

Saul
I saw a documentary a couple of days ago on the rebuilding of Iraq and the disturbing part was that most of that money was shipped in in the form of cash - yup, hundreds upon hundreds of hundred dollar bills (stacks of them!)  Consequently there is little check and balance.  In addition, when money first started trickling in it was stored in Sudam Huussein's palace if you can believe that!  "Where has all the money gone?" is a fair question for the American people to be asking.

How can we argue - except that Iraq's not a moral exercise but an exercise
in greed...

Thanks, afzal. I would just like to see a little accountability and
responsibility shouldered by all parties...
