Good post, mryan. And you are correct. This is clearly a free speech
issue.  He did nobody any injury or harm and he seems to have been making a statement.  Unless there's more to the story.  Yet, flushing the Koran might be blasphemous to a Muslim, it isn't to anyone else.  The only crime seems to be one of petty theft.  So make him replace the Korans and do a few hours of community service.  Better yet, let him even the score by throwing two bibles, two Torahs, two copies of Dianetics, etc., into the toilet.  Sometimes, in our rush to prove our egalitarian principles, we puncture the envelope of common sense...

Wickedness is weakness . All bad or unjust act should be condemned and not
justified because those who do not respect the religious feelings of others are truly not religious themselves . God is just and watching mankind .

Mryan
This is a good post. I fear it will not go far because it makes sense. Giving Islam the right to claim a hate crime in this Country and disallowing anything as hate crimes against Christianity is totally unbalanced. Those who accept this have to be unbalanced themselves. I should never have a right to have you sent to jail because you hate me! Duh!
