Thanks for that. I live and learn. We have a 'rag week' at Brit unis but it's to do with charitable fundraising mostly. But I have come across 'ragging' in the UK almost in the sense you describe for when kids (or adults) are mucking about in a boisterous way with each other.

Well thanks dave.... Basically in india when ppl join college.....so for the first few days d seniors have an introductory session with d juniors in which d juniors are teased, bullied and made to do all sort of embarrasing things...........In a way ppl come to kno how sporting the new freshers are.....
