Re: Re: WavyDavy
some garb is required.
some is optional
some is for evangelical purposes, thus a religious one. there are those who object.
our founding fathers wanted religion to be as separate from government as possible, from certain public arenas -- public schools are public -- should not be conduits of proselytizing --
the Law of certain segments of certain religions require certain dress. certain Christian sects require certain dress and you can see girls adhering to this requirement -- long skirts, plain type clothes etc.
the principle of not favoring one religion over another also allows religions to adhere to their principles, even with the wearing of certain garb. I see Indian (Hindu, I think) women often wearing their (sarongs?) and with the red dot on their forehead. It would be a violation of the constitution not to allow this.
As far as having Islam be a part of the curriculum -- I think that is perfectly all right -- it should help us to know more about that religion and not be so uninformed as too many Christians, particularly on Blogit, seem to be.
As far as restricting Christian teachings in the Public Schools -- there's a church on every corner -- anybody can drop in any church at any time and receive teaching there (although it varied from church to church and congregation to congregation).
we are looking at cultural diversity here and learning something about another culture.
this should promote tolerance, kindness, and such.
or :
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
tolerance and peace -- it seems religionists want to have a law against such.
seems they want
Gal 5:20 | | . . . hatred, variance, . . . , wrath, strife, . . . |
the Kingdom of God is far from such people.
"By their fruits shall ye know them."
Those that promote strife and hatred -- do not have fruits of God's Spirit.

Re: WavyDavy
I agree with you. If Muslims and Hindus can wear their garb, then Christian students should be allowed to wear the sign of the cross or a painting on a t-shirt of Jesus Christ. I don't have a problem with any of it. There are some people who have a problem with all of it. They believe all religious symbols or clothing shouldn't be shown or worn by any student, faculty member or staff member at any public school in the country. I graduated from a public high school in 1982 and I don't remember anybody showing or wearing any type of religious symbol or clothing to school. We did have a moment of silence where we could pray silently after reciting the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

Justi - The more I read and hear about the word, 'freedom', I don't think
it exists. Have a blessed day, Justi. Hope you're all better now.

No we don't! I agree no one religion should be running the country. However, the persecution of Christians is way out of line. Schools in NYC (public ones) teach about the Muslim religion, and other places about a lot of religions, the people can wear the items associated with there religions some Eastern others as well but some schools that allow this do not allow girls to wear the cross for fear of offending. Anything associated with Christianity at all is forbidden, that is not free. That is not freedom! If it is free all get the same treatment.

You Don't Want To Come Here Now!
We have the freedom to believe or not to believe just as long as we don't have one specific religion rule the country.

I expect the government to protect my rights to my belief just as they do any other religion... If they don't then there will be utter hell to pay..We are still a Christian nation. I was wrecked when I found out the college in Flint, Michigan were installing foot washes for the Muslims on campus....at the tax payers expense..Talk about double standard and last I heard that little task had been withdrawn once the good taxpayers of Flint found out about the scheme. I think they remembered that little clause about separation of church and state...
