Straightforward, sorry I missed your post.  So here goes: I make no distinction when it comes to extremism of any nature.  My focus was on the Muslims because that's what was posted.  If it had been about domestic terrorism and the ravings of some of the evangelicals and their "eternal" torment litany.

Radical theism is anti-God.  Bet  on it.   joab

Islam and Reform

One major cause of the civil war is: Who has authority and from what side? One argues that leadership is derived through kin of the Prophet(Ali, for example); the other faction believes it should be resolved through the will of Allah and left in his hands.

This was told to me by an Irani citizen.  So, even he might not know the real reasons;  except he does believe that it is all politics and no religion at the base of it all.

Me.  I dunno.  I'm agnostic to the point of even trusting "not knowing" as a description.

Re: Fundamentalists are present in every religion . It is not the religion
Yes, Fundamentalists are present in every religion, but not all religions are equal (and I know how much that annoys the relativists out there).  Saying that, since it is a religion, it must be good and pure is a refusal to actually examine the religion.  Mohammed is the "ideal" in human behavior according to Islam.  And Mohammed was a militant prophet.  He sent letters to the leaders of nations which basically said "Convert now, or we will invade and convert you."  That attitude has been handed down through the generations of muslims and is the driving force behind the terrorists of today.  So, I must disagree with afzal50.  Although, the Islamic religion may not be the only force contributing to the problem, it definitely is one of them.

If you agree joab1, then why focus only on Muslims? Maybe we need to think again?

Re: Fundamentalists are present in every religion . It is not the religion

For the most part I agree with afzal, but I believe "interpretation" begs the issue.  I directly blame the clergy and I hold them accountable for EACH ATROCITY. They are for the most part, a scheming and plotting cadre of pseudo-religious murderers -- if not by their own hands -- then MOST CERTAINLY BY THEIR INFLAMMATORY WORDS.  They aren't at all religious; they are haters of mankind.  Islam WAS as great religion, but now . . . now it's become a synonym for terror and prejudice against all things progressive; the fanatics cannot -- no matter the "degrees" they have from universities -- ...cannot truly fathom our way, ergo it  must be evil.

This applies to any and all so-called organized religions, denominations notwithstanding.   jab

Yes.....
But until we see other examples.....it has to be said that Islam is the only religion killing  non-believers by the thousands.........if it is truly such a small part doing all of this........why is the vast majority being so silent?  Where is the outrage over such crimes against "non-believers?

The silence from that majority is deafening........and speaks volumes........

Fundamentalists are present in every religion . It is not the religion
which is faulty but the people's view of it and interpretation that changes the meaning .
