No honor is done to the memory of the person who has passed or the person or persons still living to link them up in a deliberately disingenuous manner like I described in the previous comment.
This is just the vocalization of someone's evil thoughts. I see no reason to look at this from any seemingly more highly-minded, fairer, more diplomatic.

Let me try to explain a bit further
This only happens at work. The coworker doing the comparison waits until the person he's really talking about, who is also a friend of mine, takes a day off.
It starts out as an insult and a compliment intertwined. He says he's really glad to have me doing her job and that the deceased coworker and I have always been the best at it. He adds that he likes the one who has the job now but that she just seems to have her own way of looking at things.
