I tend to take it a bit further... I know nothing about anything..I havent seen the official God Book of all books.. I think (and I never really think much any more).. it got burned up in a fire somewhere .. so I am not sure where all of the experts get their info..Imagination is a wonderful thing ~Peace, OTA

the "experts" I have met on Blogit.

I found out it is so much to admit that I know nothing.. then see what opens in front of me.

sotonggal - first off welcome to Blogit

Coming across as "....proud or know it alls." does not fully describe the problem. There is nothing wrong with being proud of who one is but thinking one has all of the answers, or being a "know it all" in terms of religious and spiritual beliefs on behalf of all people is definitely a problem. At least for those on the receiving end of this "knowledge".

I stopped by the link you left and you will have to excuse me for not finding much interest in the blog content. Any dialogue that speaks of the existence of a mythical all loving God as an accepted absolute, I find hard to read. I did however notice that the blog was using Wordpress, which I use myself. As a matter of fact I use that exact default template but when installing mine, took a few minutes to whip through the stylesheet and also edited 3 images to make mine look a little different: HERE

I am a believer, but I see where you're coming from.

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found lacking; it has been found difficult and left untried.” — G.K. Chesterton

I'm sorry if we come across as proud or know it alls.

But no matter how screwed up Christians are, I just hope--don't disdain God.

kooka_lives - Thank you - there are different types of love as well:

Ranging from an indescribable combination of comfort and appreciation, to hot honeymoon monkey love.

I wrote this post because I am really getting tired of seeing some of the groundless claims being made by some people. They have created a fantasy world in which people that think as they do are morally superior to those who do not. Real life, that is for those of us who have not invented invisible friends, demonstrates no such correlation between morality and a belief in their God. I'm still trying to figure out how these people do their math . . . according to them the world is going to hell in a handbasket because of the degeneration of society's morals, yet the same people will claim that 95% of society believes in God . . . how are the two notions separated? . . . well, we have seen how some of these people reconcile this idea, they harass the 5% whenever they can.

Antonionioni - to break from the collective thought process of one's

environment is definitely more difficult.

The strength in numbers you refer to can act as a set of restrictive shackles with both real and imagined impediments to examining other alternatives. These religious folks want to continue to blame everyone but themselves for the state of the world, yet they always have and still do comprise the majority.

As always a great post
After how much crap has been exchanged between your blocked blogger and me over the last few day, it is nice to see a post that is not trying to claim I am immoral just because I don't believe in God. I really need to start ignoring the guy again.

I have already seen that my marriage and the marriages of most atheist I know are much more solid than the marriages of believers I know.  But we all married after living with our future spouses and we married because we felt we could handle spending our lives with these people.  I have seen some foolish reasons why believers get married and it seems they rarely really do it for love.  In fact one believer here on Blogit seemed to imply that she got married because she wanted to have sex.  I know some who married to make their parents happy and other such poor reasoning.

I didn't use love as reason either way, because love is actually very often inaccurately used.  I've known too many people who claim it is love and it really was not.  So since love is a very confusing thing, it alone as a reasoning for marriage just doesn't really work.  I do love my wife, but there is much more to marriage than love.

I married because I found a woman who would put up with me and not try to change me.  She also has a real nice rack.  She married me because I am perfect in every way.  We also produce really cute children we found out.

Also, it's harder in some ways to be an atheist or agnostic because it's
scarier. Believers often claim that belief is harder, but surely not, as they have an eternal reward to look forward to, plus they have that sense of strength in numbers which they feel must make them right. Imagine if all the atheists and agnostics got together, determined to do everything they could to make THEIR lives easier. It'd be war, a return to the days of the Reformation!
