The good times, unreservably positive, make all the difference! My heart aches for those who miss out, and I feel just immensely fortunate! My hope in writing this is that someone who has been letting a relationship slide will realize how important it is to make the first step, to take the risk.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but am so happy that you were able to work through the pain and heartache and have a loving relationship with your father before his death. This happened for me a couple of years ago (the reconciliation part, not the passing part) with my father, and though he is not healthy and may not be here much longer, we've moved through our pain and enjoy our time together immensely. The poem was beautiful too.
