I can so relate ,I want to laugh at your dilemma. I too offer too
generously then want to kick myself for not being more businesslike.

Rainy
I had a niece photograph my wedding (last year) and she had no qualms about charging for her time (I believe she used $12/hr as a base, guestimated the time it would take, and then provided me with a flat fee).  The cost included (in our case) 20 prints.  We received the proof sheet, of course, and any further pictures we may have wanted would be an additional cost.  I thought this was quite a reasonable friend/family rate and you should give it a try.  Your time and efforts are worth something - don't sell yourself short.

This was great...
I so relate, we love our friends, people in our lives but saying no is often hard so we comply only to hate ourselves later.

Re: rainydayinmay
with these friends, it wouldn't. We don't really know them well. we just both adopted children from the same biological screw ups. But you are right. This is why we live 2000 miles from family!

That "volunteering" stuff with friends and family gets old really fast.  Usually, the more you do it, the more they expect that sort of thing and the less they appreciate your efforts.  Then, they get really upset when you won't do stuff for them any more like it was your duty or something.   Of course, I know that wouldn't happen with your friends and family but.....
