You Can Deport Them
Im not sure I buy the common argument that nothing can be done about the 12 million illegal aliens currently fleecing the social services of our border states. It is not as difficult as many would lead you to believe to actually locate these people, as they are mostly employed in the same type of industries. Farms, manufacturers, day labor drop zones, meat packing plants, these are all common places of employment for these people. Raids and sweeps of these places of business, enforcing laws that are already on the books, would round up a good number of these individuals in my state. Beginning the search in their places of work seems like a good start to me.
As for the cost. This is the United States, we find ways to pay for things that matter. If the war in Iraq were over tomorrow, that would free up hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Even a small portion of that would ensure success in securing our borders and deporting these illegals. What people forget is that these people are criminals. All of them, by definition, because of the fact that they have blatantly broken the laws of this country, and continue to do so with no consequences. In addition, they cost the American taxpayer billions in social services that range from medical care to educating their anchor baby children. There is no doubt that their continued presence will be a devastating blow to state economies and social service systems, and as such something HAS to be done.
Close the borders, DO NOT give amnesty, and deport those who you find after searching for them exhaustively. The cost not to will be too much donw the road.
