Thanks Wonky and Damon and Beachbelle,
Even my granddaughters nautiness is a relief, we can all laugh
at the little devil. Things will have to get much worse before they rival the '70's, and they could. Remember we have the depression
of the 30's as another kind of benchmark too. Could it go that far?

Cynthia:
Fascinating post, as per usual. The parallels between our times are most certainly startling, though I did not live through more than two years of the seventies so only know what I've read, seen, and heard. It's curious how dramatically Nixon pales in comparison to the current administration - was the general public back then so willing to turn a blind eye as they largely seem to be today? It's interesting that we should be so enamored of the 70s...perhaps subconsciously the nation, even those who mysteriously embrace Bush, senses the parallels...
And strong women find strength in family as well as rage :) Have a wonderful birthday.

You Make an Interesting Link...
...between the 70s and today. I'm glad there's a big anti-Bush demo planned later this month, and I think your call to be with family on your birthday is the wise one. MoveOn are doing some sterling work.
We all need to start with where we are, who we are, and what we've got. Keep that in mind, keep doing what you're doing, and have a fab birthday!

Telynor, If it gets as bad as it was in the '70's
it means the Bushies got reelected.

Chick312, What a weight you carry, that's the part
of this war that the Bushies could care less about,
the people fighting it and the aftermath. My daughter
was born in 1970 too. Her dad was a Marine. He died
young too, at 52.

Ah the seventies...
I was a teenager back in the 70's, and don't remember it with much favor. Nixon looks
sterling compared to the pack of animals we have in the system now. That's pretty scary...

happy birthday
abnd thanks for this post regarding the 70's i was born in '70 - but i really do feel that these are important limes like that decade. my dad came home idsable from Vietnam and it affects my daily life. he killed himself a few years ago. what i am aftraid of most of this war is that the men and women are going to comeback different. a human can only witness so much horror until it affects their future. peace
