good points.
"if he is ever perfect and complete, how could the will to create have arisen in him?" -Jain sacred text (ninth century)

Religion Explained: the evolutionary origins of religious thought by Pascal Boyer is a really interesting read if you can get past all the digressing examples he gives.

Gomedome

without at least some risk of error in our assessment? .. your words are true again, our intellect cannot explain God / Love. Love is an irrational thing. It refuses explanation by our human intellect.  Even my use of the word 'God' or  'love' is my own doing. It is limited by my understanding of God /Love.

Indulge me, for I am metaphor happy of late:

I love Icecream / Icecream makes me sick

I want some Icecream / You are lactose intolerant

I am going to the store to buy Icecream / You are getting fat

My favorite is soft serve vanilla / Every time you eat soft serve you get gas.

I cant wait to eat Icecream again / You are crazy

SO WHY am I participating in my own torture with Icecream ? Is it rational? Is it explainable?

No, its not explainable, because it's love.  Clear as mud? Peace, Gomedome

OTA. - okay I can buy that God is all love but this then renders redundant

the notion that man was created in his image.

Mankind is certainly not representative of "love" or "all love". By your own words we are imperfect and lacking in the ability to fully comprehend God. How then could we assign the definition of the representative of all existing love to this being? . . . . without at least some risk of error in our assessment?

... all of the things you list about religion are true..religion is of man though.. the imperfection of man will likely never be able to fully explain or figure out God. Its really so simple.. its just Love. God is all Love. Peace Gomedome
