I would agree with you that if patrons disagree with the philosophical
campaign Starbucks is instigating, then their best course of action is just not going there. I often think too much public control is exerted upon businesses. I know, in my business, I do not like to hire people who smoke. They are constantly taking breaks all day long to go and smoke and they smell like a smokestack when they return from these breaks. Some of them hack and cough all day. The investment one makes in an employee is at much greater risk when they jeopardize their health by smoking. Businesses should have a right to exert their influence upon society in such ways, if they choose to do so. Perhaps Starbucks could use their cups to spread the news about the health risks of smoking?
