Telynor, you'd think the battle against decent public transportation
was a diabolical plot by the politicians supporting the auto, and oil industry, now wouldn't you?

Sometimes
I take the MetroNorth down to the City; it's a gorgeous ride along the Hudson, and never fails to inspire me. The MTA is another matter entirely, I have a hellish time navigating the stairs any more, and the noise and crowds always seem to spook me. OTOH, the bus service where I live is downright lousy, I can never get anywhere on it, and I think it was designed by psychopathic mice in a maze.

Cynthia:
If it does...well...It's not like I'm going to be there much longer anyway, as I'm switching grad programs (and schools) next fall to one more suited to my academic speciality...The school at which I currently teach claims to be a very liberal sort of place - by and large, I've found this is mostly just talk rather than action; however, I and a few of my colleagues have screened relatively "racy" or "controversial" films in the past (Paris is Burning, etc.) - to be sure Girl... is a step beyond, and yet sometimes that's the best way to really get people to think about new things...I'm looking forward to the discussions it should provoke! :)

Wonky, I hope Girl Next Door
doesn't get you in trouble. I'd love to have your
experience with this, being a brave teacher, so
we could encourage others to do the same.

missyj, I think I'm always looking
for good material. I have to give my SO
some credit. He looks at stuff I was never
aware of, he's part scientist/observer.

I'm so glad you ride public transit
I sell parts for public transit buses and trains. I wish I could take a train to work.

I agree:

It's the details in your writing, Cynthia, that keep me so fascinated :)

An unrelated BTW:  I've got an initial write-up of Girl Next Door...I'm going to show it in class (yep) next week and after I get the students' reactions, etc., I'll let you know how it worked out!  Thanks again for such a fascinating recommendation!

Your eyes are wide open on the world
I appreciate people who pay attention to what's going on around them.
