A ramp agent is the person @ my company who coordinates how cargo is loaded on an aircraft. In a nut shell, I am the person under the general manager who directs the flow of traffic to and from the appointed aircraft. My mian duty is to ensure the weight and balance is correct in the computer and on paperwork given to the pilots who actually fly my plane. If everything is not accurate the pilots reserve the right to refuse to fly cargo to the destination. I call maintenance if something is broken. I am the guardian of the aircraft.

Welcome to Blogit! I flew into MCI twelve days ago. I know Midwest airlines does not have airbus airplanes so I doubt I passed you in he gate area. I flew non-rev so you can imagine the stress my day was. I look forward to more of your adventures.

On a flight not long ago-- domestic, on Southwest--
the crew asked for volunteers to go sit in the back as the flight was far from full, and everyone was up front. They offered free drinks to anyone who would move back. Later, I asked if there would be free drinks for anyone who stayed up front, instead of moving back to get the free drinks... No, no free drinks for us... Okay, I don't drink anyway.

No, I do have to tell the pilots what they have on the aircraft. If I build a funky configuration in the bellies it is good for them to know or if my haz mat team has Hazardous material inside of one of my containers I have to know what position on the plane It will be stored . That kind of stuff. I am haz mat qualifed as well. I haven't had aviation lesson.....Yet. although I don't wish to pursue them at this time. Thanks for asking.

I'm very glad you share my concern! The one that planes are very fragile! I worry about that a lot when I am flying, which always requires a fair bit of medication, like scotch or such...
