That's quite funny, Rob.  Actually though, Beethoven wasn't completely deaf until the age of seventy five.  Sadly, the gradual loss of his hearing began when he was only twenty two.

Did you know that he fell in love with a blind woman?  Sadly, they weren't allowed to marry.

As for listening to the conversation, you should try reading the conversation of a group of deaf people!!  I've done this before to improve my sign language, and it's really quite amusing.
