I think it's pretty well covered in those
marriage vows.

Hi TIMMY...I think I'd abstain..you know "for better or worse"...I guess

I'm old fashioned like that! I guess it also helps that I was quite the wild child and got all that out of my system! LOL

My best friend went through this not too long ago...we almost lost her
boyfriend.  He's fine now.  She didn't cheat but now, she doesn't have the feelings for him she once had.

Hey Timmy,
If you married to some one, whether they are physically ill or mentally ill or vegetable state,in my mind, Ihave the committment, SO I STAY ABSTAIN. BECAUSE I BELIEVE SEX IS NOT A DESIRE, but a true feelings to each other and must be divine.......

Me personally, I would want to know that they are happy and therefore give my consent. I would not however be the one to do it. Consent or not.

It would be cheating.  I believe in "for better or worse" and have always been committed to that.  But, I would not say "I would never do that" because one does not truely know what one will do in the future.

Yes and no.

You should rent the 1996 film "Breaking the Waves" (starring Emily Watson). It addresses that very same subject.

"If you go parachuting, and your parachute doesn't open,
and you friends are all watching you fall,
I think a funny gag would be to pretend you were swimming."

WOW, that's been my word for the day! Uhm, Would a trip to Fantasy warehouse be considered cheating? And that trip would be dependent upon how long has your friend been in "need".

I have an old saying, one of mine:
"As long as they don't bring back prohibition or cut off my right hand, I'll be fine."

The fact is, if I made a promise, then I made a promise, so I won't go find something on the side as long as my Beloved draws a living breath, and that's that. Fistina and I go back a long ways anyway, and I can always use my left hand if I want some strange.

It depends on the illness and how it affects the person but I have been with men that have diabetes and they cant function properly, but they satisfied me in other ways, no need for anyone else, that is what toys are for  BOB will always be there

I agree with Talion. For better or worse. Only I go one step farther, even if mentally incapacitated, as long as she is alive I'd stay faithful. Its not like she did something to cause me to no longer stay loyal, we were still in love, she just became ill. That doesn't make you stop loving someone or stop being loyal.

What would you expect of your own loved one if you were the person who became ill?

TIMMYTALES

Initially I thought of that old Kenny Rogers song, Ruby...

If I could move, I'd get my gun and put her in the ground...
Ruby, don't take your love to town...

(Yes, I know the lyrics from memory.)

If the illness that leaves my wife physically incapacitated also leaves her mentally incapacitated as well (comatose, severely brain damaged, etc.), getting a woman on the side is not that big of a deal since the marriage as we knew it is basically over anyway. A heart beating and blood pumping doesn't necessarily mean alive. A vegetable, for lack of a better term, is only a step away from dead. Descretion is still in order because appearances matter.

However, if she maintains her mental faculties and we can still communicate and interact as we always did, I wouldn't see another woman because I'd consider it cheating. I vowed better or worse. This scenario is certainly worse, but sex wasn't the reason I married her. There would come a day when sex became less important (if not nonexistent) in our relationship anyway. I'd learn to do without.
