kooka_lives - the answer to the question you pose in the blog title is both
When you ask: "DOES RELIGION PROMOTE IGNORANCE OR IS THAT JUST A BYPRODUCT?" Absolutely religion promotes ignorance and absolutely it litters the ground with ignorance as a byproduct. You touch on the evolution versus creationism debate which seems to never want to die a natural death. Its resiliency a direct result of a carefully orchestrated religious agenda and the determination of those who would advance this agenda. How many ways must the difference between a "belief" and a "scientific theory"  be explained? Within this group are the young earth proponents who are a lot like the flat earth society. How many times must we prove that the chronology as found in the book of Genesis is impossible? Ignorance is promoted by attempting to advance any agenda against all reason, the bybroduct is the pollution of young minds that are influenced by this stuff.
