Re: You should see "Letters From Iwo Jima" ... it's a lot better.

I hear you, Mademoiselle, and I get your point about war. But let me ask you a serious question: What do you do as a person and as a nation when you are attacked by another nation? I know for a fact that pacifists who sat down and refused to resist the advancing Germans were simply killed as an oh-by-the-way as the Germans passed. Obviously, that tactic didn't work very well.

So what is the alternative? Unfortunately, in today's world, if you don't make yourself sufficiently strong to resist an invasion, one will come as surely as day follows night. No one I respect likes war, but how can one – in good conscience – not be prepared?

You should see "Letters From Iwo Jima" ... it's a lot better.

Of course, the one I'm really looking forward to is "Telegrams From Berlin".

"If you're in a war, instead of
throwing a hand grenade at the enemy,
throw one of those small pumpkins.
Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is,
and while they are thinking,
you can throw a real grenade at them."
