I guess only a blind person can date unseen.
When I was young we had what we called blind dates  depending on trusted friends and family to hook us up with people they thought were nice for us.  So many of those turned out to be really blind dates.

lol  Kind of funny.  I learned the hard way.  Right now, I'm writing about, 'the sting' --not quite what you think-- and it helps to write it all out.  Careful out there!  --Joy!Mary

I remember a lot of pictures being years older than portrayed, and even a case or two of the wrong photo.

I like to see a picture.. but will usually scan the words they provide to see if there is any reason to look further. Some people are still very shy about posting their pic online however I often wonder if they are truly..single... when they dont post a pic..

LOL.......it's okay to look, but do you base the decision to go out with someone based upon their picture?

A photo is fine, but as we all know sometimes a photo can be deceiving.

Well I think I must be very shallow cause I can't date anyone I can't look at first...

Interesting post.  What I find odd about internet dating sites is that it seems backwards.  I'm not so sure that attraction has to be false.  There's something to be said about meeting the old-fashioned way.  I'm blogging on dating tomorrow.  It's a hoot!  --Joy!Mary

When I went through the whole on-line dating thing I confess I wanted to see a photo.  I'm not sure I was looking for a certain look or a physical attraction but what I did look for was kindness in the eyes.

Relying on the physical attraction.........do you feel that you may have missed out on someone great because of that?

Okay, I was going to sleep, then saw this.

I've been told I'm not like most people on this one, but the "x" factor gets me way before a pretty face.  In fact, I sort of stay away from pretty boys.    I met someone on a dating site years ago, a Timmy, btw, and he didn't have a photo up and neither did I.  He had me long before I met him.  He was military, so it took some coordinating.

After I got home, my brother asked me what Tim looked like, and all I could come up with was "taller than me with brown hair". He could have been a hunchback at that point.  Until very recently he topped the list of men in my life, and that includes the husband.

But I agree in the general sense. I can't tell you the number of crazy guys who write me on myspace as if we have anything at all in common.  You know they haven't read a single thing I wrote about myself because they'd get that it just ain't happening.  My favorites are the ones who tell me they don't bother to read...now who tells a writer this.  These are the yahoos who have scanned only the photos.  You really do miss good people, or the exact right person, if you depend on photos, I think.

I have actually never even looked at a dating site! I guess I was lucky that there always seemed to be enough women in my world.

And physical attraction was always terribly important for me, initially! But then, if I found out she had little to say and I couldn't talk with her, I would lose interest very quickly.
