Sunny before you go to sleep try to remember all the lovely things he was
to you and that might turn your dreams around. Make lists and sleep on them under your pillow

Well I know we learned things as children, and back in the 40's even when I was young, we didn't even have many black people in Montreal.

But I do remember when they were sometimes talked of, my father had a way of saying "Black man" that kind of made them stand out as being different, but he never used that "N" word I heard in later years

I do remember though he wasn't pleased  when my sister Maggie was dating a Trinidadian man, so you see prejudice can be learned.

But as individuals, we can choose to be different from our parents.

It's definitely (often) related to parental upbringing. I have white friends who's jobs take them (often) to places in and around Gary, IN, which is predominantly black and poor - they often get called rather unleasant names, or stolen from - I'm not blaming a race for this type of behavior, but, as I said, Gary is a very poor city. And when I'm around my white friends, some of them frequently use the "N" word - it's strange, but you would think poor blacks, and poor whites, and poor people in general, would band together, because they have that financial status in common, but that is not often the case - it's a vicious circle. And the white friends of mine will tell you over and over again, that they have more problems with black customers, than they do with the white ones. I don't know the solution to this problem, or if there even is one.

Yes, the world would be a much, much better place.
Luckily, my mother was not prejudiced, and my father (to the best of my knowledge), wasn't much either.

I totally agree with what you say in this post. Excellent and very balanced
view on causes of prejudice .

Hi Sunny...I believe you are absolutely right...it is picked up from our

parents beliefs and behaviors when we are children and also from our environment and sometimes through our experiences. I can truthfully say I do not have a prejudiced bone in my body and that is due to my parents that emphasized to us that no one is better than another because of the color of their skin, nationality, or religious beliefs. I make my decisions about people based on their words and actions, not their color or religion. Gee, wouldn't the world be a great place if we all did that? Good post!

sunny,
we often dream of our loved ones. That's common because they are always in our heart.

I guess that can be true, especially back in a time where we didn't have the knowledge and understanding that we do today.

we don't like what we don't understand... and it seems that some people
are unwilling to open their minds and try to understand.   I think it's fear mostly.

We stereotype the whole group as having undesirable traits. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. It elevates us. Keeps us from looking at ourselves. Denigrates them. MoonSpirit

I kinda understand, and in another way, I don't?  What could an entire group of people hold or might we think they hold, that we may hate about ourselves?
Or is that the point? We just assume?

Some people say that what we hate/dislike about what we see in others are things that we hate/dislike about ourselves. We don’t want to admit that we might have these negative traits, so we project all of our hatred (fear) onto the people, group that we see as being unlike ourselves. MoonSpirit
