The sad thing about him losing his job is that in an effort to stop all the negative characterizations we all have it just shows how idiotic the whole thing is. Black rappers can denigrate black women and that's fine. Let a white guy say it and see what happens. The same thing was true of the Duke "rape" case. It was rape all right except three you white guys got raped by many. How do they get their reputation back? I don't think they need to. Duke has an endowment of $3.8 billion. I'd be in favor of setting them up financially for life after what the university did to them. They can also go after those who wronged them besides the university. Enough rambling.

I agree with you most of the way. Yet, characterizations not couched in defensible language negate the effect you can have. An assault on the human dignity is worse than murder. When murdered, you are gone. You suffer no indignity nor pain. When your dignity is assaulted, the effects lasts for your lifetime and beyond. THERE CAN BE NO REPAIR. Let's , therefore, use civil language in ALL our discourse.
Yes, although Imus's phrase is reprehensible, having him lose his job is unjustified and indefensible.
