Follow the money and the publicity
Imus beccame a liability so they booted him out. They retain Rush (who was a decent conservative in Sacramento before they took him to New York and made him into Newt Gingritch's attack dog and he became addicted to narcotics) because he hasn't become such a liability, due to fancy footwork, as follows:
1. Make bombastic, maybe hateful, statement (without using trigger words like "ho", whose use seems to be reserved for kids and African Americans).
2. When the backlash occurs, step back, look hurt and waggle your hands, saying "Look, it's just entertainment, folks, why are you so het up with po'm little ole me?".
Imus is a magoo, good riddance, but be consistent(and I can see him suing over this) and hold all your personnel to the same standard. No more affiliates with rap music. No rap music in the loading docks out back, even. Shock jocks gotta clean up, too.
PS: Compare his rhetoric, as an entertainer, with such utterances as "Hymie Town" by people purportedly running for the top political leaderships in our nation. Where's my Advil.....
