Here the Sikhs do it every Sunday, but in their own way.
They have an open house, free buffet vegetarian lunch for anyone who needs or wants it. Too bad their Gurdwaras are mostly out in the coumtry but the suburbs are rapidly encroaching them. Also too bad everyone is afraid of them to some extent.
It would never fly here.

Azur, you could get someone to start it in your neck of the woods, too.
Someone like your hubby, lots of publicity, etc....
Adults and children make glazed bowls, someone donates space for the sale and dining. Caterers offer free food and others, like me offer, or are invited to add to the air of festive celebration and thanks.
Money goes to the food for the poor and elderly group of your naming.
Yes, my grandson's third eye on his forehead stopped many a passing elderly person with an, "Oh my, goodness !" A spider had part of a web coming out of his hair and the spider dangled down on his cheek, and ants were gathering for an attack on the other cheek.

TAPS, thanks, it is very worthy and not really new, started years ago.
She tells everyone that I am a face painter, because I always painted grandchildren's and my dogs' faces. I really paint canvases.
So, now I have added face painter to my resume'.
