I've grown and developed as a writer because of blogging, but it's only because I take the time to edit and polish. Blogging isn't the "real thing" when it comes to writing, but it's certainly a dress rehearsal. We can't simply go through the motions. We must put on the whole costume. Do i expect Pulitzer prize worthy contributions from my fellow bloggers? Not at all and I sincerely hope no one expects them from me. However, I expect a certain degree of quality. If we want someone to truly read our work, understand it, identify with it, we have an obligation to produce the best we can. If a writer doesn't care about the work, why should the reader?

When I was learning to write, it took me FOREVER to give myself permission to write crap. Now, I write and revise as I go along. Then edit continually! But not my blogs, as I prefer to leave my writing as close to conversation as possible because it's a journal. Don't ever look at my grammar and punctution. lol But I have a spell checker on my word processing program, so I use that. My favourite Hemingway quote: "I write a great beginning, a good middle and a fantastic ending. Then I throw out the beginning and ending and concentrate on the middle." --Joy!Mary
