Eggs are symbolic of new life and fertility, and we know that rabbits are rather prolific breeders. Hence the connection between eggs and bunnies, not normally encountered in nature, lol. And of course spring is the time of new life, new hopes, new beginnings.

The whole business is rather pagan but, grafted on to a Christian festival, it beautifully symbolizes the nexus between the spiritual and the physical...

Pascha (Easter) is the primary act that fulfils the purpose of Christ's ministry on earth—to defeat death by dying and to purify and exalt humanity by voluntarily assuming and overcoming human frailty. Eggs are symbolic of human frailty, and since we tend to hide our frailties, this probably creeped in as a ritual sometime.
                                 Christ is risen from the dead,
                                    Trampling down death by death,
                                            And upon those in the tombs
                                                 Bestowing life!

Walked out yesterday and a huge hare ran across our path! Didn't find any eggs though!

Maybe we hide the eggs because we can't hide the chickens.  It's only a thought. lol
