Yes, I think I'd like to discuss more on this subject

I see the points you are making. I agree that the time factor is one definite thing to keep in mind as in direct victims and slavery was such a long time ago. But again I don't know if I should disagree on this one if I look at the way for instance the Indian economy runs. Should we forget the debt that colonialists owe us for taking our raw material away and murdering the local skills and coming forth and doing it again in the neo-colonial age. Shouldn't reparations result in cancel the debt. So I guess time also is relative?

Again, there is another aspect that I would like to dwell upon. The one about the equality. Ues we

Hi Straightforward.
Well, I think there is some justification for reparations on an emotional level, but who pays who, and how do you know whether the recipients don't share some of the guilt? Many people were collaborators rather than victims. Also, what about the view that the descendants of slavery in the USA, to take that example, are TODAY better off than they would have been if slavery had not existed? Better opportunities, lifestyle, facilities, welfare state - you name it. Also, all races should consider themselves and be considered equal members of the society they live in, and if they are equal, then they share in the rights and wrongs of that society equally. They should not consider themselves separate - otherwise, they are separate, and therefore have less claim on the benefits of that society they live among but are not part of. If slavery had only just ended, then I quite agree that compensation to its actual living victims would be quite appropriate, as is, for instance, reparations to living victims of the Holocaust - i.e. the ones that suffered first-hand. I'm sure there is more that could be said on this subject. I am happy to discuss it further if you want to.

Tonyzonit, I am a little confused on how to respond to this one as I am one
of those who is an avid supporter of the concept of reparations.

Hi White Cossack - I was worried about that, so i explained it at th end
so there could be no misunderstanding of my intent. And you're right, there is humour in it.

Excellent and point on, Tonyzonit. I'm sick of the apologists and the
revisionists.  Let's play the prevention game from now on.  History is what it was.  By its very own definition, we're past it.  Now, for crying out loud, can we move on?

Troosha, thanks.
I wonder, is it possible that life could be turned into a holiday instead of an endless contest? Probably not, actually - we are too competitive and hateful towards each other...

Extremely well written Tony! I actually think we're like slaves now----
"Don't do this---don't do that---you will not smoke in public---" etc.etc.etc. Chris.

A quilt of guilt smothers not just the news - what a great line.  The entire sonnet was full of vigor, reality, and a good left hook.  We should all be on cruise...   we should all also open our eyes.
