Fangs a lot! You have reminded me that my memory is really going - can't recall losing any ever, apart from my Wisdom Teeth being removed! Perhaps therein lies the explanation.

I know I lost two or three in a spectacular bike wreck
when I was a kid.
I vaguely remember some of the others.
Did they ever tie a string to a loose one and the other end to the door knob and then slam the door?
