Well, the whole language thing is a real problem.  Here in the area of Texas where I live, it seems to me that every store I go into, I deal with an accent I can barely understand....either Spanish, Indian or from some Middle-Eastern (I'm sorry, but I just don't know).  BUT,  I'd rather put up with English that is very difficult for me to understand because of the heavy accent, than the bi-lingual English/Spanish culture that is so prevalent here, because I believe that is wrong on so many levels that if I got started, well........I'll just say I think it is a big part of the ruination of the cohesiveness as a nation.....we must have a common language to be a United States....period.  And, the cost of printing all the labels, teaching bi-linqual in the schools, the signs, etc.  It is absolutely ridiculous.  If I lived in another country, I would like to make a living, and I'm sure my accent would be a struggle for their natives, but I would not expect them to change their way of life to accomodate my language - I would have to learn theirs, and work on making myself understood, my responsibility because it was my choice to live there.

my daughter wanted to attend the University of Pittsburgh
but opted for Point Park College because the waiting list was too long.  her girlfriend's mother works in the registration office and said that mostly all of the names were foreign.

i totally agree - you never know where they are answering the phone
and i also might add that all of the richer foreign families are having their children educated in our colleges and taking away opportunities for our children.

About 4 years ago the company I worked for did speciality systems installations ...very large operating systems. So big in fact they run much of GE, but I won't say what part. I came home from holiday to find out that 3 years into our contract they were "out sourcing" to an Indian company. So I went to Atlanta and basically told them we were responsible for the intrgrity of the project. They said they were mandated to new associate rates of $15.00 per hour. Our engineers made $150 to $200 depending on vertical expertise. So I then said who will train this  company...and they said we were to do it. I told him if you want a $15.00 per hour associate, I'll get you a $15.00 per hour trainer, but the real issue was the intellectual property. I wouldn't ask any professional engineer of greater then 25 years experience to even consider the proposal. Why should they give away their greatest asset? Heck I wouldn't ask that of anyone..

They lasted about 8 months and then they called us back...

I get so wrecked over this stuff...don't get me going. I just do exactly what the other blogger does....WHAT? In fact if I have to talk to customer service about anything I demand an English speaking person. I don't have the time nor the patience. Learn the language if you are going to represent...It's not a hard concept to grasp..really..

Lustorlove...
How right freaking on!  Last night I got a call, and it took three repetitions before I deciphered my son's name.  I had no idea what she wanted to sell me, but I told her if she wanted to sell me something, she had better learn the language, then I hung up.  Another think that fries their brains is to imitate them, poorly.  Or, just limit your replies to, "what?"
