SuccessWarrior - yeah, no kidding and I have always wondered how many
hillbillies have been killed doing car jumps in their back yards after seeing that show.
Seriously though, it is a point well taken. Watch an old Clint Eastwood movie and you are bound to see him fire an antique hand cannon from the hip or from under a parka to hit the bad guy dead center in the forehead from 40 paces. During the time you spent working as a policeman you would have spent some time on an indoor range firing modern day pistols, did you ever meet anyone capable of such marksmanship?... even with modern day weapons?

Nautikos - I have to agree that the need to believe is a foible of human
nature that is present in the majority of our species.

I always wondered how the Dukes of Hazzard
could squeal their tires on dirt roads.

as always, articulate and well-reasoned. I would just add one other variable to the equation: man's (terrible) need to believe... I treat that as a phenomenon to be understood; not to be eliminated, since that's impossible...

OTA. - the last time I read the National Enquirer the headline stated that
a Susquatch "village" had been spotted in Canada.
Really, no kidding, an entire village of Susquatch living in neatly arranged little houses as if they were human. They even went on to give details and show a map of the location. Too bad it was 2,000 miles NorthWest of my location or I would have dropped in for a visit. It's not every day that you get to see a Susquatch village.

"Based on a true story" doesn't mean "documentary." Many don't/can't/won't realize it. Of course nowadays, "documentary" doesn't mean much with film makers like Micheal Moore running around. It's easy (and occasionalyy completely accurate) to brand "Hollywood" as a bunch of snake oil salesmen, but the important part isn't
snake oil. It's
salesmen. The buyer should always beware. While much of what's broadcast is basically lacking substance, from the aforementioned docu-dramas to the reality shows which are everything except real, the greater responsibility rests on the consumer. It's not Hollywood's fault if someone believes
Touched By An Angel and
The Exorcist is real.
