I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt. The reason there is so much trouble is such remarks as you made about compassionate conservatives. I am a compassionate person and I am a conservative. I put my money where my mouth is. I do try to get health care for as many as is possible. I was a business owner for 35 years in a business so small I could not afford insurance. I had an aneurism and came out of the hospital with a $27,000. That was small as compared to today’s costs.

I do not want to see any baby’s hungry, nor do I want broad sweep accusations made about those like me who do as much as we can to correct the situations. I am not for a welfare state. I am for teaching people how to work and seeing they are aided until they get on their feet and that no child or adult goes without food. I give 24 hours per week free of any cost to anyone but me to help with people coming off drugs and alcohol. Many have lost their children, I and others there help them to get them back, feed them and learn the skills to take care of them so they don't go back. So those I know who are conservative are also compassionate and you are lying about all conservatives. That is an unnecessary hurt and gets nobody any place positive.

I have no problem with people having assistance who is trying, who will work. I know what you are talking about but I also see many who won't work because they are too good to sling burgers and get assistance. It works both ways. I am for help, assistance and I am for teaching them to excel. Why don't you talk to Microsoft and many other companies who are taking all the jobs these people could work at to India, etc?

I don't think we are that far apart politically you are totally unwilling to see another point of view according to what you have written on my blogs. I am not going to argue with you. I believe you have the right to feel any way you choose. I do not believe you have the right to use hate speech toward me. Calling me a non-compassionate person is a lie.

actually i agree with a lot of this
however, this person seems to be confusing "rights" with societal responsibility.

take health care, for instance.

A lot of people would be without health care if they had to pay full price -- I would say, if that were truly the case, then only about the top 10% income earners would be able to pay.

And of course the "compassionate conservative" (such an oxymoron) wouldn't mind if people got sick and dies -- if little children died -- if there were no free flu shots to stave off an epidemic -- or if a mother died of childbirth or thousands of babies died IN childbirth or in infancy as they did in the first part of the 20th century -- we boast of our increased lifespan in the U.S., but this has come from medical care -- and many receiving such with no price happen to be part of that statistic.

and of course, no one should be taken care of who is low or no income at all.  They should just be left to fend for themselves -- then they can take the immigrants' jobs with inadequate housing, unhealthy conditions, long work hours, low pay, etc.

no rights of course to any of these things, but we do have something bigger -- remember you are a Christian, and Jesus (quoting from the Torah) said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  So if we do allow people to get sick and die, or we fail to provide for others, then how can we say that we are following Jesus' teachings?

But back to the subject of welfare (I have been a welfare caseworker and am constantly in contact with low-income families on welfare) -- why would you deny a person a chance to have a life -- an opportunity to get ahead?  I have observed many a person go from welfare to work, in particular an African American girl I know who is from a family on public assistance and is now pursuing a post-graduate degree, and giving back to society, helping others who are in similar circumstances.

we are a whole society, whether we recognize it or not -- this is a chain, and a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

we have many weak links that we have decided either to ignore or treat, as this writer does, with utter disregard and disdain.

people have a choice of being limited in scope and vision, thus, encasing themselves in a really small box, or of being inclusive and seeing the broader vision where such paranoia as this writer has expressed is seen for what it is really is, something that, in limiting others, limits the progress of society (and the United States of America) as a whole.

It is a crying shame the way some people see things through these zigzag glasses.

Common sense often would win; however, those wailing junk yell the loudest and the common sense sellers never get heard. Thanks for your great comment.

These are fabulous rights! We should hold a referendum, and I bet you the majority would endorse them. Of course, if the Mexican invaders are allowed to participate, I'm not so sure...

Of course. Not only that but the people who are policing the border are being put in prison for protecting it.  Bring them on until it is to late to do anything about it. Thank you so much for sharring your common sense.
