This wouldn't do away with the union.
Some people might choose not to join when they went to a new school but others, like you, who see the value would not go without.

I am a teacher...
I used to be against unions until I worked at a school that didn't have one. Believe me, it's a nightmare. The administration can do what they please with us, and the children are the ones to suffer with inadequate curriculum, etc. They actually escorted a fellow teacher out the door midday, and wouldn't let her take anything--not even personal things with her. They treated her like a criminal; it was awful. She was a great teacher, but had the courage to speak out for the children. And she was gone. They also got rid of my assistant for the same reason. So I know there have been abuses with unions, but there are always two sides. Something to think about....
