Yes they are
And knitting pieces of real people (including yourself) into your characters is a must. But....if I'm honest, which this poem attempts to be, I have come to know, love, and want to be with some of my characters more than people in the real world. If I didn't, why would I waste my time telling their stories to myself? Instead, I just go to an office party.
